The History of the Signature Bag

In 2002, Radley released the first ever Radley picture bag, which has become known as the Radley Signature Bag. Each design depicts a seasonal-related scene where Radley the dog is the main focus. A new collection is launched twice a year as the Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter collections. Some years an extra signature bag is released and sometimes a limited edition signature bag is released. Radley signature bag releases have evolved and changed over the years. The detail on all signature bags is what makes these bags extremely collectible and desired.  From our research we have found many details about the bags that don’t seem to be commonly known and hopefully we will provide you the details every collector needs.

– Every bag goes through 30 different craft processes from pattern cutting to hand painting.

Way back when, on a plane, somewhere between Thailand and Calcutta, Lowell, the Radley founder, and Ann, Radley’s longest serving designer, were brainstorming ideas for the 2002 Spring Summer Collection.

Flicking through magazines for inspiration they stopped on a picture of a line of British beach huts. Struck by the simplistic beauty and summer infused colours, a light bulb moment occurred!

As soon as the plane touched down they rushed straight to the factory to bring the image to life on what was to become the first Radley Picture Bag.

Since then Radley have looked at everyday beauty to inspire us, each of our Picture Bags tells a little story beautifully.
